SUSTAINABILITY

What are the SDGs?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations are a guide to prompt action to transform our world and leave no one behind.

What is Sustainable Development?

Sustainable Development has been defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations.

What is the 2030 Agenda?

The 2030 Agenda is a plan for action in favor of people, the planet and prosperity, universal peace and collaborative alliances.  The Agenda proposes the 17 SDGs, and their 169 goals, which cover the economic, social and environmental spheres and have two very important characteristics:

· It is democratic and integrating in nature, as it was debated, defined and approved by all Member States.

· Its principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities": since it is recognized that developed and developing countries contribute with different intensity and responsibility to the degradation of the environment.

What are the SDGs for?

In addition to putting an end to poverty worldwide, the SDGs include, among other causes, eradicating hunger and achieving food security; guaranteeing a healthy life and quality education; achieving gender equality; ensuring access to water and energy; promoting sustained economic growth; adopting urgent measures against climate change; making cities and human settlements safe and resilient; promoting peace and facilitating access to justice.
